Read Write Own by Chris Dixon: First Thoughts

(Looking for the best place to start web3 writing projects, like this. Suggestions greatly appreciated!)

Read Write Own: the book consists of 287 pages, not including the xxviii of the introduction, nor the About the Author page, nor the page which describes Caslon, the chosen font.

There are four sections in the Introduction: Three Eras of Networks, A New Movement, Seeing the Truth, and Determining the Internet’s Future

In short, this book is a class act which deserves a thoughtful review; this will take time to write.

If you are interested in my thoughts on Read Write Own, please consider sending me some of those warpy things or degenerate money or even some solar oreos. Doing so will, perhaps, allow me to take some time away from my main source of income ( unloading boxes at an Amazon “Fulfillment Center”). Your help might also allow me to push my AR startup plans out of the stealth garage. And, even the smallest gift energizes my artistic life, a glimpse of which can be seen in these collaborations with Andrew Chu:

Andrew and I used frames/Farcast/blockchain to share a Bubiko NFT project: https://opensea.io/assets/base/0xc713622fd2d9a05d371c2081e08f26894758e50e/75

We will soon do a basemint…

If I were Chris Dixon, I would input RWO into AI and prompt it to create the basis for Read Write Own for Dummies. This is an extremely important book.

“Read this book to understand a compelling version of where the internet should go and how to get there.”

-Sam Altman, co-founder, Open AI

“If you are seeing these words on a screen, and are serious about creating a better future, buy and study Read Write Own.

  • Stephen Black, CEO, Maith
Aroi mak mak!

“This book is a must for anyone who wants to better understand the real potential of blockchains and web3 to drive even greater innovation, inspire more imaginative thinking, and ultimately unlock new growth opportunities in the future.”

-Robert Iger, CEO, Disney

Regardless of whether I get any solar oreos or not, I will do a proper review of this book. Art and creativity-based networks are the mainstay of my life. From this book I get hope for myself and the future of all.

Let’s pretend the top five social networks charged a similar amount. If they all had take rates* of 10 percent, their share of the $150 billion in annual revenue would drop from $130 billion to $15 billion. That would put into the pockets of network participants such as creators an extra $115 billion per year. How many lives would that change?

From page 191 of Read Write Own by Chris Dixon, in the chapter entitled: Some Promising Applications

  • take rate: see the photo above, on the left.
  • I am thinking on how to act upon this article by Fred Wilson.
  • Full disclosure: I was able to get a free copy of this book necause of a post on Farcast.
