SAFETY FIRST! When you are looking at AR objects with your phone, PLEASE be aware of your surroundings. You could accidentally bump into someone or something, maybe even a car.

Maith and CapaCITY Toledo welcome all to experience GeoPose Augmented Reality and its possibilities for education, business, art, industry, tourism, entertainment and more. Stephen Black, a Toledo native, is a recognized AR producer, writer and artist, who has given presentations at MIT, Columbia University, Hong Kong PolyU, TechCrunch Shenzhen and other noted venues worldwide. This summer, one of his current projects will premiere at the Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, New York.

CapaCITY Toledo

CapaCITY Toledo, founded by visionary serial entrepreneur Maria Zenil, is a non-profit entity committed to the revitalization of economic development in Toledo.

The location is across from the Toledo Museum of Art: https://goo.gl/maps/vzvASmiRXzMUcWEAA. Free parking; scroll to the bottom of this post.

Is this a sales presentation?

No. This is just an informal and fun way for people to learn about and experience Augmented Reality.

What is GeoPose AR?

GeoPose AR uses the real world as a way to present digital content like posters, photos, videos and 3D objects. Easy to demonstrate; not so easy to explain!

(If you are interested in a more technical explanation, this is the website for the Open Augmented Reality Cloud, an international group of volunteer professionals committed to making GeoPose AR open and ethical.)

Like all AR objects, this floating bagel is only visible if one has a phone and an app.

I don’t know anything about technology!

You don’t have to do anything except watch demonstrations, videos and the short presentation by Stephen Black. You can see the projects using the phones and tablets we have provided. Our goal is to be fun and informative!

Some of the projects use the ACO Viewer, some use the app by XRMasters. Both apps can be used on Android and iPhone. Both are free and no sign-in information is necessary.

If you download one or both of these apps, you can experience AR on your own phone- and take your own selfies! If you do this before you come, it will save time and, you can see some of the projects as you walk in!

This is what the ACO Viewer app looks like on an iPhone. It is also availble for Android phones on Google Play.
This is what the XR-Masters app looks like on Google Play on an iPhone. It says “This app is not available for your device”, because Google Play is for Android phones. Both XRMasters and the ACO Viewer are availbale for both Apple and Android phones.

So what is the bottom line?

Stephen Black has already made Toledo/Bowling Green (and other cities) one of the few pioneering OSCP Testbeds in the world. (Scroll down to see the map.)

Besides being entertaining fun, this presentation strongly suggests that Toledo and/or Bowling Green take the steps towards becoming an official OSCP geoPose AR testbed. The starting points for GeoPose AR usage would seem to be tourism, art, entertainment, downtown revitalization and industrial uses. The world would be watching the GeoPose AR projects of Toledo/Bowling Green.

I would like to thank my technical supporters. These magnificent people are: OARC, the Open Augmented Reality Cloud, Novaby, XR Masters, Augmented.City, Flamingo Filters, Area 505 and Scandy.
